I'm fascinated by landscapes - my art reflects this and draws on the time I spent as an archaeologist and my experiences living in the south west of England.

Inspiration

Melanie Torrance

My home studio on the borders of Somerset and Wiltshire is where I find inspiration for art making. The beauty of the landscape and my relationship with it is explored through painting, printing, collage and incorporating my own photographs into my work.

I love the exploration of materials in relation to my subject and will one day work with watercolours, the next day create printed collage papers, and another day work in acrylic paint. The various materials allow me to approach my subject in different ways but always to explore and discover.

There is an element of nostalgia in my art that links with memory, loss and the passing of time. I'm exploring my emotional connection with the world around me - connecting through time with those who have been here before and considering my place in the world.
